The consequences of this two-tier system extend beyond pricing. When compute is inaccessible, great ideas never get built. From developers who can’t afford compute for a breakthrough application, to a research team that can’t fund its critical work, to a startup that runs out of runway even when they have strong product market fit, we see time again the danger of centralized, inaccessible infrastructure.
Open source AI models help. But a great model running on infrastructure you can't afford or access is still a locked door. Access to intelligence only works when there is also access to compute.
But, the current limits in AI aren’t inevitable. They were a choice. And choices can be changed. What the AI industry needs isn't just cheaper compute. It needs a fundamentally different approach to infrastructure where compute is distributed, transparent, and affordable.
